Caviar for the Skin
Thanks to innovative formulations and advanced ingredients, caviar reveals its full skincare potential now more than ever. Caviar-based cosmetics not only provide intense hydration, but also improve skin elasticity and provide the coveted glow. And all while ensuring maximum skin compatibility. Today, it’s a classic that has become a standard in high-end skincare as well as in fine dining.
(Skincare) First things first: modern caviar cosmetics smell like sophisticated skincare, and not like fish. Their luxurious textures are smooth and free from real fish eggs. This is because precious ingredients such as proteins, peptides, omega fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and amino acids are extracted from them beforehand and then combined with other active components to create high-performance skincare. Particularly advanced formulations rely on microencapsulated caviar extract, in which the actives are only released upon application.
The combination of caviar and skincare may seem unusual at first, but the cosmetics industry often finds its inspiration in the culinary world. Matcha tea and turmeric, for example, have already found a permanent place in facial care. Caviar, however, was one of the first foods to make the leap into cream containers. As a result, its processing techniques have been perfected, the selection is extensive, and its effects proven.
But why caviar of all things? What nourishes from within can also do wonders for the outside. Caviar is packed with proteins, fatty acids and minerals, a true superfood that also nourishes the skin. Its antioxidants support cell regeneration and help to even out the tone and texture of the complexion. Fatty acids soften and brighten the skin, proteins bind moisture, and amino acids promote collagen production which can visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles. In hair care, caviar adds a shine, keeps the scalp healthy, supplies the hair roots with nutrients thus promoting hair growth. Despite its potency, caviar is particularly well tolerated and relaxes stressed skin. “The active ingredient is suitable for all skin types, but especially for mature, dry and sensitive skin,” says Dr. Ingo Riemann, Scientific Director of Research & Development at BCG Baden-Baden Cosmetics Group. “It is only with acne and oily skin that the intensive effect may be too much.”
In all products, the care effect is enhanced by additional high-performance active ingredients. Combined with hyaluronic acid, this improves moisture retention. An extra dose of peptides and niacinamides, as contained in the new La Prairie “White Caviar Light Concentrate” serum, strengthen the skin barrier and improve the skin texture for a maximally even complexion. “Antioxidants such as vitamin E are also an excellent match for caviar extract, as they protect against free radicals and therefore counteract premature skin ageing,” reveals Dr. Riemann.
