Wearing Stories—
Mayiana Jewelry
Maison Ë sat down for an exclusive interview with Tatiana, the visionary behind Mayiana Jewels, who transforms the Earth’s treasures into intimate creations—jewelry that embodies love, legacy, and the timeless bond between mother and daughter.
(Treasures)On a sun-drenched Mediterranean morning, I find myself drawn to the story of a woman whose creative journey mirrors the precious stones she transforms into art. With the scent of pine carried on the sea breeze, Tatiana welcomes me with a warmth that is unforgettable. Here, overlooking azure waters that have inspired countless artists, we explore the soul behind Mayiana Jewels—a brand founded not just in 2021, but in the deeper currents of memory, motherhood, and the ancient alchemy of turning Earth’s treasures into emotional artifacts.
Having studied Fashion Design in Kyiv before life led her to Geneva, Tatiana initially felt creatively untethered. She studied French, consulted astrologers, and searched for direction. But when she became pregnant with her daughter Miya Ayiana, something awakened—not just physical fertility, but a psychological renaissance. And when a friend told her she could create whatever she wanted without permission, everything fell into place.
Mayiana revolves around the profound and loving bond between mother and daughter, a connection that is both timeless and unbreakable. The entire jewelry collection is exhibited in Tatiana’s Geneva Showroom, where a private shopping experience is available by appointment.
The finest pieces of jewelry select us
rather than being selected.
Maison Ë What is your first memory of jewelry?
Tatiana The first jewelry I encountered was my grandma’s and my mother’s. The women in my family always wore jewelry. It was not just a decorative element; it was something essential. I had the impression that each woman had to have it. I also realized that precious jewelry was given as a present to a precious person. It was a message like “You are important in my life, you matter to me.” Jewelry, for me, has always been about femininity and the invisible threads that connect us.
M.Ë How has your relationship with jewelry changed since you began working in this field?
Tatiana I don’t wear it less or more, but I wear it completely differently—with a deeper appreciation and more intention. Through my work, I came to understand how much work there is behind each piece and how many steps are involved. It’s the result of teamwork that starts with an idea, a sketch, and is finished in the atelier with the jeweler who makes it. Jewelry was already something magical for me before, but it became even more magical.
M.Ë How would you describe a perfect piece of jewelry? What makes it perfect?
Tatiana A perfect piece of jewelry lives and breathes with its wearer. The finest pieces select us rather than being selected—there’s something profoundly emotional in how we’re drawn to certain creations while others leave us untouched. True perfection emerges from the trinity of artistry, narrative, and masterful execution. Often, mere millimeters determine a collection’s destiny. Perfection isn’t found in rigid symmetry but in harmonious intention—something you sense intuitively, beyond language. When jewelry transcends its physical form to become pure emotion, that’s when it achieves perfection.
M.Ë How did becoming a mother change your perspective on life?
Tatiana Everything changed when I became a mother. Before, I lived day by day. Now I live with the future in mind, trying to be not just present for my children, but a living example of fulfillment. Children don’t learn from what we say—they absorb who we are.
My daughter became both muse and teacher. She’s my happy star. Motherhood awakened creativity at a level I’d never experienced. That’s when I registered Mayiana—the name itself carries her essence.
M.Ë Your travels inform your creative process. Can you share an example of how a cultural encounter, moment, or energy evolved into one of your distinctive pieces?
Tatiana When we travel, we’re not just changing the place, we’re meeting with new energy. I don’t try to copy the culture I meet, but try to connect with the energy of the place and culture, absorbing the colors, textures, architecture, and rhythms that will later transform into lines, forms, and metal. While traveling, I’m at ease, and that leaves more space to create and have ideas. I can be inspired by the color of the ocean, a flower, a pattern, or the texture of a plant.
Each piece of jewelry becomes a dialogue between the place that inspired it and the woman who will one day wear it. Also, I believe that every piece I create begins as a silent wish in someone’s heart—a whisper of individuality waiting to take form, until our paths cross and it finds its shape through my hands.
As an example, the collection MY OCEAN is the result of traveling to the Seychelles. I was mesmerized by the waves. Back at my studio, those rhythms, colors, and emotions found expression through the materials in my inventory.
I feel successful because my clients feel that there
is a special energy behind Mayiana.
M.Ë What sustains you through challenges?
Tatiana I believe deeply in Mayiana—as a creative vision and a strong business. I see how much people respond to it. Our clients are such elegant, accomplished women who already have everything—and if they choose Mayiana, it means I’m on the right path. For me, building this brand feels like pregnancy. The child is already under your heart, and there’s no turning back. In this state you will always do your best to make your child grow and ensure it will come to see life. You have to be strong enough to meet the difficulty and to continue to go forward. I know that with each difficulty I become stronger and more professional. I just have to keep moving.
M.Ë What is your perspective on lab-grown diamonds?
Tatiana We live in times where people have the freedom to choose. It’s an age of conscious choice. If a brand chooses to work with lab-grown diamonds, transparency is key. Mayiana works exclusively with natural diamonds. In a world where almost anything can be replicated, a real diamond remains a rare miracle—one that cannot truly be imitated.
A diamond is not just a crystal. It is a piece of history, a piece of the Earth that has waited millions of years for you to wear it. I think that there’s something powerful about knowing you’re wearing a stone that has existed for millions of years and it holds the strength of time itself. You can be in direct contact with this strength, which carries within the wisdom and power of the ages.
Today, you can no longer tell a lab-grown diamond from a natural one by sight alone. But the difference lies not in what the eye can see—it lies in what the heart can feel. And if we speak about value and investment, natural diamonds are not just jewelry—they are a legacy. Their value only grows with time, especially in the case of rare stones. Lab-grown diamonds, on the other hand, lose their value the moment they are purchased.
M.Ë Where do you see your company in ten years from now? What drives your long-term vision?
Tatiana First of all, I see partnerships with prestigious luxury retailers in the Arab world—like Al Fardan in Qatar, Asia Jewellers in Bahrain, and respected retailers in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. These regions appreciate beauty, meaning, and high quality—everything that Mayiana stands for. Middle Eastern women have a certain lifestyle of wearing jewelry. Europe remains more conservative when it comes to wearing jewelry.
After establishing strong foundations in the Gulf countries, I plan to expand into the U.S. market. I see my brand in Miami and California. It’s competitive, but I believe Mayiana’s unique style and story will speak to people there too. One of my big dreams is to have a Mayiana boutique in Harrods, London. That would be a special moment—a sign that the brand is truly known and loved around the world.
I have many plans and ambitions for Mayiana. At the same time, I consider myself fortunate—life has often surprised me in the most beautiful ways, sometimes far beyond what I had imagined or planned. That’s why I always leave space for miracles in my vision of the future.
M.Ë How do you define success?
Tatiana It’s when a client tells me that their Mayiana piece is giving them good luck. I feel successful because my clients feel that there is a special energy behind Mayiana. I have clients who love the relationship; they know the person behind the brand and that’s why they buy it.
Above all, I want to create a community of people who appreciate jewelry as art and love the aspect of uniqueness. That’s when I know—I didn’t just make jewelry, I created a state of being. And in that moment, I feel I am exactly where I’m meant to be. I’m not creating out of need—I’m creating out of abundance, inspiration, and love.
